Privacy Policy for Commander
Last Updated: May 11, 2025
At Commander, we value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you use Commander, a Chrome extension designed to automate web tasks using natural language commands.
1. Information We Collect
Commander collects the following types of information to provide its automation services:
- User Commands and Queries: When you input commands (e.g., “go to YouTube, search for IPL, play the first video”), we collect these queries to process and execute your automation plans.
- Webpage Data: Commander accesses webpage content (e.g., DOM elements) on the sites you interact with to perform actions like clicking, typing, or navigating. This data is processed locally and not stored beyond the execution of your command.
- Usage Data: We store query history and automation plan logs locally on your device (via Chrome’s storage API) to enable features like rerunning past commands.
- Technical Data: We may collect technical information, such as error logs, to improve Commander’s performance and troubleshoot issues. This data is anonymized and does not include personal information.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information solely to provide and improve Commander’s functionality:
- Automate Web Tasks: Your commands are processed by our backend (via a local WebSocket server) and Google Gemini AI to generate and execute automation plans.
- Enhance User Experience: Query history and logs are stored locally to allow you to access past commands and track execution details.
- Improve Performance: Technical data, such as error logs, helps us identify and fix issues to ensure a reliable experience.
3. Third-Party Services
Commander uses the following third-party services:
- Google Gemini AI: Your commands are sent to Google Gemini AI to interpret natural language and generate automation plans. Google’s API usage complies with their privacy policies, and we do not share additional personal data beyond what is necessary for processing your commands. Google API keys are securely stored in environment variables.
- WebSocket Server: Commander communicates with a local WebSocket server (running on your device) to process commands. No data is transmitted to external servers unless you opt for a cloud-hosted backend in the future, which will be disclosed and secured accordingly.
4. Data Storage and Security
- Local Storage: Query history, logs, and technical data are stored locally on your device using Chrome’s storage API. This data is accessible only to you and is not transmitted to our servers.
- Security Measures: We use secure practices, such as encrypted WebSocket connections (when hosted publicly in the future) and environment variable storage for API keys, to protect your data. However, as the WebSocket server currently runs locally, data processing occurs on your device, minimizing external risks.
- No Unnecessary Data Collection: We do not collect or store sensitive personal information, such as login credentials, financial data, or browsing history, beyond what is needed for automation tasks.
5. Data Sharing
We do not share your data with third parties, except as necessary to provide Commander’s services (e.g., Google Gemini AI for command processing). We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone.
6. Your Choices
- Query History: You can clear your query history at any time through Commander’s settings in the extension.
- Uninstalling Commander: If you uninstall Commander, all locally stored data (e.g., query history, logs) will be removed from your device automatically.
7. Children’s Privacy
Commander is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately, and we will take steps to delete it.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the policy on our website or through the Chrome extension. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy will reflect the most recent changes.
